After winning the title in the second season of the ISL they managed to register just three wins last year and finished seventh in the table. Chennaiyin FC tickets match tickets for home games can be bought online here.

The side will play their home matches at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai which has a capacity of about 27,000 spectators.

John Gregory has been appointed as the new coach of the side after Marco Materazzi was let go following a dismal season.

After retaining three Indians in their squad, including Jeje Lalpekhlua and Karanjit Singh, the Chennaiyin FC entered last in the ISL Draft, but had a reasonable time bringing in their desired players.

Chennaiyin brought in Thoi Singh and Dhanachandra Singh, both of whom have played for the side in the past, while Harmanjot Khabra and Jayesh Rane were unable to make it to the squad.

Some of the other players who were signed up during the ISL Draft were Bikramjit Singh, Germanpreet Singh, Pawan Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, Sanjay Balmuchu and Francisco Fernandes.

What Happened in ISL 3

Former Italy international defender Marco Materazzi, who played for Chennaiyin FC in the inaugural edition of the tournament, managed the side for the second season in a row.

The team were dealt with a massive blow even before a ball was kicked when the previous year’s stand-out performer Stiven Mendoza rejected an offer to return to the team for ISL 3. After protracted negotiations failed to pay off, club officials turned to Nigerian striker Dudu Omagbeni to lead the line. The forward had previously played for FC Pune City and FC Goa and had seven goals from 15 appearances in the competition.

Brazilian midfielder Elano, who was a very important member of the team in the past two editions of the ISL, also did not feature which meant that John Arne Riise, former Liverpool and Roma left-wing back was signed up as their marquee player.

Bernard Mendy returned to feature for the Chennaiyin FC for the second successive season.

Thoi Singh, Jeje Lalpekhlua, Harmanjot Khabra, Baljit Sahni, Jayesh Rane, Mehrajuddin Wadoo and Karanjit Singh are some of the Indian players who played a role for the side in the 2016 edition.

Materazzi has also moved to sign Eder Fernandes, Raphael Augusto, Hans Mulder, Manuele Blasi, Davide Succi and Maurizio Pelusco for his new look side.

Going into the 2016 tournament, Chennaiyin FC had lost quality players who made a real difference the previous season and their inability to find like-for-like replacements for them was responsible for Chennaiyin’s poor showing. ISL Chennai fc squad 2017 roster is placed below.
