Ganguly confirms Rooney Visiting India To Watch ISL This November
Atletico de Kolkata co-owner and former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has claimed that England and Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney will also be visiting Kolkata later this year besides Brazilian legend Pele later this year.
The former cricketer said at an event that Rooney will be arriving as part of the second edition of the Indian Super League football tournament which is slated to kick-start on October 3 in Chennai.
The joint-secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal is believed to have filmed a promotional for the
second edition of the ISL earlier in the week. If reports are to be believed, the Manchester United forward is also part of the same promotional and is in line to make a short visit to the City of Joy in November this year.
The promoters or the organizers of the ISL have so far neither confirmed nor denied the reports but some sources have been rather skeptical of the reports and have dismissed the same as mere rumors.
The English Premier League will be in full flow for almost the entirety of the ISL and it is difficult to see Rooney shirking international duty for England in order to catch a glance of the ISL. England are slated to play a couple of big friendlies in November. The Three Lions are set to travel to Spain on November 13 while Didier Deschamp’s French side will arrive for a friendly on November 17.
Pele’s agent had earlier confirmed that the World Cup winning Brazilian star will visit Kolkata between October 11 and October 14 and will be the guest of honour at Atletico de Kolkata’s first home match of the season against the Kerala Blasters FC. The game will be played at the Salt Lake stadium on October 12.
It will not be the first time that Pele will set foot in Kolkata. The man with the golden feet had touched upon these shores some 38 years ago when he played in an exhibition match for New York Cosmos against Mohun Bagan.
